August 5, 2011

Hello Patrick.

I hope the opening went well for the August show last night; it is a very powerful and moving show.
It initially confuses with the effects of open doors and seasonal charm given the warm weather and blue skies, as we are perhaps more inclined to be at peace, and not in a grey and dreary mid-November frame of mind. This in and of itself, helps the viewer (at least me...) to take stock and remember and acknowledge: war is all year, somewhere. And not a pinned poppy in sight (that I recall seeing)-- for visual grounding of this particular symbolism-- delinking from what is now a mainstream societal adaptation and symbolic of visual awareness that has become integral to remembering; rather, this is art. But the Poppies do unavoidably hover in one's mind.... row on row. Sobering and thoughtful, very diverse and interestingly timed; the show is more than another war report amidst the summertime evening news...; perhaps it forces the civilian viewer beyond what might be a typical (maybe seasonal ) comfort zone. Into, well, if ever so briefly, the thoughts of a war zone, imagined, portrayed or remembered; perhaps, anyhow. For me as a viewer, this is very well done.
Best wishes for a well received Show.

That is just a brief thought from yesterday.

.....

Cheers

Don.
